Gift Ideas for Music Teachers

4 Gifts Every Music Teacher Will Love

Last week I published an article with gift ideas for students and received a request from a parent to follow up with a list of ideas for music teachers.

*Full Disclaimer: Any gift is wonderful and as a teacher I appreciate that a student, or family, has thought about me and wanted to give me a gift of any kind. I do believe it is the thought that counts. That said, many teachers I know have more music mugs and ornaments than they know what to do with. Also, food gifts can be problematic because of food allergies or other health reasons.

It can be hard to figure out what IS a good idea to gift your child’s music teachers. Below are four simple ideas that you can tailor to your budget and with your teacher in mind. They are all ideas I highly recommend. Some links may be affiliate links, which give this blog a small commission for each sale.

With all of that in mind here are some other gift ideas to celebrate the music teacher in your life:

A handmade Picture or Note

These are some of my favorite things to receive from students and when I asked other teachers for ideas this was high on everyone’s list.  We all do this job because we hope to make a difference in students’ lives – nothing makes us feel more appreciated than a note from a student like this.

I love hearing from students what they love about playing their instrument or working together in lessons. These are wonderful to receive and in my experience as a parent fun for students to make!

Gift Certificates

Many teachers have a wish list for teaching supplies and materials that you could contribute by getting them a gift certificate to a music shop or even Amazon. It is also a real treat to go to the local coffee shop or book store and gifts like these are always a hit. Don’t worry if you don’t feel like you can give a large amount – the small gift cards add up and it will be very much appreciated whatever the amount.

Office Supplies

Music teachers use a lot of office supplies in the studio . Here are a few ideas that would make a good gift:

Give Towards Your Teachers Continuing Education

Most teachers I know make it their mission to be life long learners and to continually learn and grow in their field.

Taking the money you would otherwise use to buy a gift and contributing towards your teachers training fund instead would be a great gift.

In fact, if you work together with other parents in your studio you can put together a good sized fund for your teacher to take a class over the summer or attend a conference that will benefit the whole studio with the great ideas and inspiration your teacher brings back with them.

You can enclose the amount you would like to contribute inside a card and say something like:

“I know how committed you are to ongoing training to be a better teacher, this gift is to help offset the cost of your next course or workshop.”

Are you a music teacher who has an idea to add? Please leave your idea in the comments!
