Edmund Sprunger: Back to School Advice and The Value of Frustration

This season I’m excited to be kicking things off on the Time to Practice podcast with expert guest Edmund Sprunger. Edmund Sprunger is a Registered Violin Teacher Trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Author of Helping Parents Practice and Building Violin Skills (two books I personally love and recommend all the time).

He is a frequent guest speaker and clinician at workshops and events supporting Suzuki teachers and Families. Edmund Sprunger is also a psychotherapist in private practice giving him a unique perspective of having studied with Suzuki in Japan, decades of teaching experience, deep care about supporting parents who are supporting their children in practice and his perspective in the field of mental health.

We start off talking about ways to support practice at the start of a school year, and then get into a great discussion on the importance of frustration for children, and the complicated and important role of parents supporting students in their music practice. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
